The reorganization plan implemented by Sheriff Mac Manning increased the number of deputies on patrol throughout the county. New patrol zones established under this plan average 94 square miles compared to the previous average of 164 square miles. This has resulted in increased visibility of uniformed deputies on patrol and availability for faster response times to emergency calls for service.

Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) have been installed in many of the county's patrol cars with funding from the Governor's Crime Commission and federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grants. These computer laptops give deputies the capability to check information from the SBI Division of Criminal Information, the FBI National Crime Information Center and North Carolina DMV files from their patrol cars. Wanted person information, vehicle registrations, stolen property records and many more crime files can be accessed instantaneously. Deputies can also send digitilized text messages from car to car or to any law enforcement agency using the MDTs.
