Jail revenue collected during the 2000/2001 fiscal year generated by housing federal inmates for the U. S. Marshal Service exceeded all previous years at $1,546,350.00. Total Sheriff's Office revenue collected during the last fiscal year exceeded $2,151,093.54, which is equivalent to reducing 3.4 cents from the county's ad valorem tax rate. These revenues are derived from line items such as civil process service fees, commissions from the inmate telephone service, jail fees, jail commissary commissions, firearm permit fees, medical reimbursements and fees for housing state inmates. Revenues generated by the Sheriff's Office help to offset the costs to the taxpayers for detention and law enforcement services.
